What to Recycle
In the City of Kalamazoo you can recycle:
In the paper bin:
- Magazines, paperbacks, catalogs and phone books (no hardcover books).
- Home, school, and office paper (includes all colored paper, file folders, and blue-prints). Crayon marks are ok, please remove all metal or plastic binders.
- Junk mail and envelopes.
- Newspapers, cereal, and tissue-type boxes. Flatten and stuff these recyclables inside a paper bag to prevent them from blowing away.
- Corrugated cardboard. Flatten, fold or cut into pieces no larger than 2' x 2'.
In the commingle bin:
- Aseptic containers (tabletop containers such as milk cartons and juice boxes).
- Glass bottles and jars (remove all lids).
- Tin/aluminum cans, foil and other kitchen metals, empty aerosol cans.
- Plastic bottles and tubs with the symbols #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5. Remove all plastic caps. Rinse all bottles, milk cartons, cans, juice boxes and bottles to avoid unpleasant odors and help ensure the marketability of the recyclables.
You can also recycle plastic bags at Wal-Mart and Meijer.
CFLs and fluorescent tubes can be recycled at Home Depot.
